Grandmere
Tatyana Figueroa
Tatyana plays Grandmere, the eccentric mother of the Comte. The following is Grandmere's story, written by Tatyana:
Grandmere de Rousseau has had a very luxurious life with many servants and a huge house. She has known the richest foods, the best of clothes, and a very peaceful, carefree life. As Voltaire put it, “Versailles was the whipped cream of Europe.” She was married to her first husband at age 27 and they had a happy marriage and children. She has never had a job and doesn’t know the meaning of hard work. Growing up, she was very studious and enjoyed learning. As she has grown older, her hobbies and pastimes have not changed very much. Being active was never really her thing and she much preferred to read a book or be indoors. As she has aged, she has become worried that life will become less peaceful and her children and grandchildren will not have the pampered life she enjoyed for much longer. She knows that there is violence in the streets and hopes her family will remain safe. Her temperament is more serious now and she is very practical and does not care or have interest in frivolous things such as dresses or how she looks. She is more interested in her family being safe and helping the needy. Sometimes she feels annoyed and frustrated when the people around her act foolishly or whine about small matters. She tries to make them appreciate what they really have. When she dies, people will remember her as a caring, practical person who was always thinking logically and trying to set things straight. She is known for being generous, her love of listening to stories… and of course, her sweet tooth for pastries.
