When Jerome was a boy, his father was robbed and murdered, forcing his mother to work in the factories. At ten years old Jerome’s mother was killed. She died because of the terrible conditions at the factory and because of the long hours. From then on Jerome lived on the streets. everything Jerome received he either worked for or begged. When Jerome was thirteen, a simple blacksmith, whose name was Mr. Murrell, took pity on him and offered him a job and a home. Jerome lived with Mr. Murrell and Genevieve, an orphan who was also taken in by Mr. Murrell. From then on Jerome learned the craft and worked. Spending all his free time at the forge, Jerome soon excelled in the craft. Teaching him and providing sanctuary for Jerome, Mr. Murrell became Jerome’s father. After living and becoming close with Genevieve, Jerome married her and started his own family. When Jerome was twenty Mr. Murrell died of natural causes and having no children, he left everything he had to Jerome: the forge, his house, and his last name. Jerome considers himself very fortunate. From his hardships as a child Jerome learned that everything you have in life has to be worked for as well as the importance of having a father and loving family. Jerome is rough around the edges but he loves his children and wife. He believes that change is necessary but is unsure if the revolutionaries are going about it the right way. Jerome values family and hard work above anything.
